Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Biography (Introduction): The Sydney 400-meter hurdles world record is held by American hurdler and sprinter Michelle McLaughlin-Levrone. She was born on August 7, 1999, and has won gold at the 2022 World Athletics Championships and the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics. At the 2024 Summer Olympics, McLaughlin-Levrone broke her previous world record of 50.65 seconds with a time of 50.37 seconds.

Sydney McLaughlin is a track and field athlete born in 1999 in New Brunswick, New Jersey and raised in Dunellen, New Jersey. Her parents, Mary Neumeister McLaughlin and Willie McLaughlin, are both successful athletes. Mary, a 2:12 half-miler, and Willie, a three-time All-American and semi-finalist in the 400 meters at the 1984 Olympic Trials, were both stars of East Orange High School track and field.

Upon her arrival in 1979, Mary, a 2:12 half-miler at Cardinal O’Hara High School, was promoted to manager of the men’s track team. Sydney, who followed her brothers Taylor and Morgan, began running at a young age. At Union Catholic Regional High School in Scotch Plains, she became the first person to win Gatorade Player of the Year twice in track and field.

Her younger brother Ryan won the county track title in New Jersey, just like his older siblings. Sydney’s athletic accomplishments demonstrate both her skill and her commitment to her sport.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Personal Life

Former wide receiver Andre Levrone Jr., who played for three NFL teams and the University of Virginia before retiring in 2020, is McLaughlin-Levrone’s spouse. In August 2021, they announced their engagement and in May 2022, they married. McLaughlin-Levrone is a member of the Los Angeles-based Grace Community Church.

On August 28, 2021, she was named the pastor of the track at Columbia Park in Dunellen, New Jersey. Her autobiographical book Far Beyond Gold: Running from Fear to Faith, which focuses on her running career and her pursuit of a closer relationship with God, was published in January 2024. The book aims to share her journey and inspire others to follow in her footsteps.

Early Career

At the 2014 National Junior Championships, McLaughlin broke the national high school freshman record in the 400-meter hurdles. In the 100-meter hurdles over 76.2 cm, she also set a world age group best time of 13.34 seconds. She became second on the all-time world youth list in 2015 after improving her best time in the 400-meter hurdles to 55.28 seconds at the National Youth Trials.

Professional Career

In June 2018, 20-year-old track star Jessica McLaughlin signed a sponsorship deal with New Balance and William Morris Endeavor and became a professional, forgoing her college eligibility. Bob Kersee, who is known for succeeding with female athletes, is her coach. At the 2019 World Championships in Qatar, McLaughlin won the 400-meter hurdles in 52.23 seconds, defeating Dalilah Muhammad.

This year, she won all Diamond League events she competed in, including the Diamond League Final in Zurich, Monaco, and Oslo, in the 400-meter hurdles. She won Olympic gold in 2021, beating Muhammad at the Olympic Trials and Games.
