David Lawrence Geffen, known professionally as David Geffen, is an American media owner, record executive, and film producer. Together with Elliot Roberts, he co-founded Asylum Records in 1971. He then co-founded Geffen Records in 1980, DGC Records in 1990, and DreamWorks Records (with Mo Ostin, Michael Ostin, and Lenny Waronker) in 1996. Education
Geffen “barely received a 66 average” upon graduating from New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn in 1960. After a semester at the University of Texas at Austin, he left Brooklyn College once again. He then moved to Los Angeles, California in an attempt to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry.
He briefly attended Santa Monica College (formerly Santa Monica City College) in Santa Monica, California, and then dropped out. Geffen blamed his dyslexia for his academic difficulties.

In 1964, Geffen began working in entertainment as a mailroom clerk at the William Morris Agency (WMA), where he soon rose to the position of talent agent. He read memos distributed by agents and learned about the politics of show business. He had to demonstrate that he was a college graduate to be hired as a talent agent.
Geffen stated on his WMA job application that he had graduated from UCLA. To prove that he had attended UCLA and graduated from there, he altered a letter from UCLA that stated he had not graduated and sent it to WMA. Geffen’s partner at Asylum Records, Elliot Roberts, was a colleague in the mailroom.
